Over the last week we have been celebrating Adair's third birthday and (hopefully) her last birthday as an only child. My best friend, who Adair affectionately calls Aunt Hollie, and her girls gave Adair a book by Margaret Wise Brown for her birthday called "The Moon Shines Down". It's a sweet book based on the rhyme:
I see the Moon
And the Moon sees me.
God bless the Moon
And God bless me.
The book goes through the different countries around the world and talks about how the same moon shines down on all of us. On the pages about Asia, Hollie added her own verse for Adair about her sister. It brought a tear to my eye when I read it.
Across the sea in the Far, Far East,
The sun comes up as we go to sleep.
Many languages these children speak-
Japanese, Korean, and Chinese,
Mandarin, Laotian, and Vietnamese.
God bless the Moon
And God bless me,
And God bless the children
In the Far, Far East.
I see the Moon
And the moon sees me,
And my sweet Little Sister
In the Far, Far East.
God bless the Moon
And God bless me,
And my new Best Friend
From the Far, Far East.
What a sweet reminder that no matter how many physical miles separate us the same moon shines down on all of us and the same God comforts, provides, protects, loves and blesses us. I don't think I will ever look at the moon the same way again.
